Snoopy finally gets to fly

I never know what to expect when a game is based on a classic license like Peanuts. Most of the time its going to be a cheap cash-in on a beloved franchise. Snoopy has always wanted to take down the Red Baron and its been a theme that shows up once and a while throughout Peanuts history. Games have been attempted in the past, but nothing even comes close to the genius that is Snoopy Flying Ace. This game is probably the best aerial-combat game I’ve ever played. I don’t say that lightly as its one of my favourite genres and I’ve played just about every aerial-combat game there is. I had the opportunity to write up a full review for the game and you can check it out here. To give you the short version, the multiplayer in this game is its shining star. Dogfighting is the best and the light-hearted nature of the combat is a breath of fresh air from the usual brutality we subject ourselves to in most games. Not that I’m complaining about video game violence, its just nice to get a break from it once and a while. If you’re even the tiniest fan of flying games, definitely pick this one up.

Red Dead Redemption

I’m at around 90% completion for single player and I just can’t turn this game off – the challenges are way too addictive. I’ve logged about 40 hours with this game and I’ve finally posted my review. You can read it here. The short version is, if you have a 360 or PS3, you have to play this game (unless your a member of PETA in which case you’ll probably cry and spray paint your TV).

My favourite band loves gaming!

Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead has posted the bands favourite games. Check it out – its a pretty good list!

Braid (various)
Marathon (Mac)
Goldeneye (N64)
Elite (BBC Micro)
Cave Story (various)
Ico (PS2)
Red Dead Redemption (PS3)
Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64)
Zelda Twighlight Princess (Wii)
Half Life 1 and 2 (Mac, PS3)

He ends by saying “Having written that, I think Ico might be the best one. Now back to Bonnie’s ranch….”. I guess he’s just as addicted to Red Dead Redemption as I am. Speaking of Red Dead, my review of the game should be posted on extremegamer.ca very shortly.
